SHRI SUBHASH CHANDRA, IAS, SECRETARY (DEFENCE PRODUCTION) VISITED GSL
Shri Subhash Chandra, IAS, Secretary (Defence Production), Govt. of India visited GSL on 13thNovember 2019 as part of activities related to the Launching of 3rd Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel which is scheduled on 14th Nov 2019.
During the visit, Secretary (DP) inaugurated the commencement of production of Fast Interceptor Boats (FIB) at the New GRP Complex. Construction of the FIBs is primarily targeted towards export markets in the African and South East Asian Countries which have demand for these boats for patrol and surveillance operations.
The production of the FIBs will be carried out in the newly set up GRP Facility which is part of infrastructure modernization program of GSL. The State of the Art GRP Workshop include Air Conditioned GRP Workshop and Mold Bay, Telescopic movable shelter, dust and fume extraction system, compressed air system, firefighting system, and other services.
A License Agreement was exchanged between Cmde BB Nagpal, NM, CMD, GSL and Shri V V Parlikar, DS & Director, R&D (Engineers), Pune for ToT in Composite Technology in the presence of Shri Subash Chandra, IAS, Secretary (Defence Production). Technology transfer in the field of Resin Film Infusion Technology (RFIT) and Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) will enable GSL to participate in manufacture of Composite products for varied applications for Defence Forces.
During the visit, the Secretary (DP) also inaugurated the Steel Cutting of the LPG Cylinder Carrier Vessel at the Newly constructed Steel Preparation Shop in GSL. GSL has been awarded the contract for construction of two LPG Cylinder Carrier Vessels for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration. The contract which was signed on 23 Sep 2019 was won against competitive bidding. The steel plate cutting marked the commencement of construction of these vessels.
Secretary(DP)was also conducted around the Shipyard, and was briefed on the upgraded Infrastructure facilities developed under various phases of construction, which will provide GSL indigenous capability to build weapon intensive high technology Ships for Defence and for Exports.He was also briefed on the future plans of GSL. The Secertary (DP) also reviewed the ongoing projects at GSL.
