The NOPV is based on the in-house design developed by GSL through its R&D. Four of these vessels have been constructed for the Indian Navy by GSL. These vessels have successfully proved the specified performance and sea worthiness during operations in service with the Indian Navy. Similar vessels are under construction at GSL for Sri Lanka Navy.
This 105M. NOPV is capable of fleet support operations, coastaland offshore patrolling, ocean surveillance and monitoring of SLOCs,defence of offshore oil installations, escorting high valueships and embarkation & operation of ALH helioopter. Powered by twin diesel engines with CPP, the vessel delivers aspeed of 25 knots. The vessel hasan endurance of 6000NM. An advanced Automation System is provided for Platform management. The vesselis fitted with state-of-the art Navigation & Communication equipment and Electronic Warfare equipment. The weaponry fit
includes 76 mm SRGM and 30 mm guns with fire control system and Chaff launchers.
As compared to the designs of similar NOPVs in service with navies / coastguards in other countries, the design of this platfonn incorporates excellent stability & improvements in terms of functionality, maintainability, better ergonomics & habitability.This product is cost effective and can beeasily adapted to the additional requirements of the customers, if any.
Due to itsexcellent stability and performance,’INS SUMITRA’from this series of NOPVs, was used as the Presidential Yacht by Indian Navy for International Fleet Review 2016.
